Data Analysis Essentials Badge

Focus of Study

As the second of the two sequenced courses, the focus is on strengthening your empirical analysis skills to answer questions and solve problems.  You will explore several additional quantitative analysis tools (chi-square, t-tests, one-way ANOVA) to expand your analysis skills. Additionally, you will propose a research project based on your personal or professional interests, collect and analyze data, and present your results for review.  Your pilot study in this course may be carried over to advance your capstone or thesis project.

Program Requirements

Expected Program Entry Competencies

Knowledge of basic survey design, experience with basic Excel formulas, IRB research certification.

Expected Program Exit Competencies

Upon successful completion of Drawing Insights from Data, the earner will be able to: 

  1. Utilize various analytical tools, including Excel Data Analysis ToolPak, chi-square, t-tests, and ANOVA, to perform descriptive analyses and derive meaningful interpretations from data.
  2. Evaluate the quality and relevance of information and research findings.
  3. Present research findings in written and verbal format.


Assessment: Minimum of 85% on all designated assignments (7) as well as 85% or higher on the Exit Exam.
