Highlights

Andrea Baker, Ph.D., is an Associate Teaching Professor in the Communication Department at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS), where she teaches courses including Public Speaking, Communication Theory, Intercultural Communication, Strategic Communication, Advertising, Public Relations, and Social Media. She joined UCCS in 2017.
 
Dr. Baker began her career as a print journalist for several small to mid-size newspapers, where she covered everything including public safety, sports, education and politics. She earned her B.A. in Communication Studies from Ithaca College and a Ph.D. in Informatics in 2010 from the State University of New York at Albany. Her doctoral research focused on the interaction between technology and various social and political institutions. After graduate school, Dr. Baker followed her passion to teach communication studies at the collegiate level.
 
She has taught at Siena College (a small private university in New York), the University at Albany (State University of New York), and Fayetteville State University (University of North Carolina), where she also advised the student newspaper. Her experience as part of a military family also allowed her to teach in Europe at the University of Maryland University College.
 
Dr. Baker enjoys engaging in discussions with students and learning from their perspectives. She finds it rewarding to see students apply foundational communication skills and achieve transformative success in their personal and professional lives. She can be reached at abaker3@uccs.edu
