Born in Melbourne Florida, my mother and I relocated to California when I was 6 months old. I spent most of my childhood in southern California moving from town to town until graduating from South High School in Bakersfield California. Two months following graduation, I enlisted in the Air Force in 1981 spending my first 4 years at Reese Air Force Base in Lubbock, Texas as an aircraft mechanic on T-38, trainer aircraft. Following the completion of my active-duty enlistment in 1985, I joined the 302d Aircraft Maintenance Squadron as a C-130 technician located here in Colorado at Peterson Air Force Base as a full-time Air Force Reservist. For the next 34 years I served in several capacities supporting many missions and deployments and, after 38 years, I retired as a Chief Master Sergeant in the spring of 2019.
Among other benefits that the Air Force provided me, I was blessed to have my education paid through the G.I. Bill. Although it was not a benefit I had originally intended to use, thanks to the encouragement and example set by my wife Connie, I was inspired to take advantage of higher education. My educational journey started with a degree from the Community College of the Air Force and then a similar degree from Pikes Peak Community college, both related to aircraft maintenance. I received my undergraduate degree in Business Management from Colorado Christian University and received my graduate degree in Public Administration from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.
Now retired, I serve a couple days a week during the spring and summer months as a maintenance technician at Farish recreation area located just north of Woodland Park. Here at UCCS, I teach leadership to impressionable future leaders and work a few hours a week for free golf at Pine Creek golf course which satisfies my addiction. I also enjoy fly fishing/tying, most sports, spending time with the family and staring aimlessly into the confines of my backyard while listening to classic rock and barbequing/smoking various meats.
