Kate Friedel

Kate Friedel, Ph.D.

Assistant Professor Communication

Highlights

Kate studies the intersection of health, strategic communication, and technology, exploring how algorithm design and strategic communication infrastructures impact users within digital systems—and how focusing on ethical design and branding can foster more equitable and supportive spaces.

Originally from Memphis, TN, she brings eight years of experience in integrated communication and digital media, which she now blends with her research to create dynamic, applied learning experiences.

At UCCS, she teaches courses across both undergraduate and graduate programs, including Crisis Communication and Research as Problem Solving, where she encourages students to think critically and creatively about the evolving role of media in society.

Beyond the classroom, Kate has taught Pilates for over seven years and is a proud dog mom to two lovable pups—Poppy & Fitz. A foodie from the South turned Colorado hiker, she’s always up for a new trail, a great glass of wine, and, most recently, a competitive round of pickleball.
