ePortfolio FAQ's

FAQs

All COMM majors, including online students need to submit an ePortfolio (CMS, ORG, STR, DFM, LED, GCS, SCM, COP, COM, COL) need to submit a complete ePortfolio.

A list of required artifacts for your track, student instruction manual, and other information can be found on the ePortfolio website - https://uccs.edu/comm/eportfolio.

Canvas pages: Each Canvas page should reflect the learning objective your artifact is designed to demonstrate (not the name of the file you’re submitting). Your actual file can be named anything you like as long as the name of the Canvas page is the same as the learning objective.

Reflection Essay: Once you’ve created the Canvas page and uploaded your artifact (using Image/File Upload), add your Reflection Essay directly on the same page (via the Text/Comment box). Your reflections should be approximately ½-1 page each and should describe how your artifact demonstrates your competency of that learning objective.

Once you submit your ePortfolio to the COMM ePortfolio course, you will receive a confirmation notification that you have done so. Please take a screenshot of that image and forward it to jthorpe@uccs.edu and put COMM graduation requirement in the subject line. You will receive an email if any revisions are necessary. If no changes are necessary, allow two weeks for your degree audit to be updated to indicate that you have fulfilled this requirement.

Please check the website for the submission deadline for your graduation date.

Instructions to create your ePortfolio, including artifacts required for your track, can be found on the ePortfolio website - https:/comm.uccs.edu/eportfolio. A Student Instruction manual and several videos are also available on the website.

Pay special attention to instructions regarding how you should add files/artifacts from previous courses. This should be done via Image/File upload (NOT via Course submission).

Using a group submission: When submitting a file that was part of a group project, be sure to upload a copy of the file. This may require you to obtain a copy from the “owner” (the person who submitted it on behalf of your group).

Once you submit your ePortfolio link to the COMM ePortfolio course, you will receive a confirmation notification that you have done so. If you submitted any file or recorded presentation (across all semesters) via Canvas, it has been stored in Canvas. Instructions to upload files from previous courses can be found in the attached Student Instruction manual.

Even though you can no longer access the Canvas course, you can access your document/file via “Files”. Follow the instructions below to locate your file.

Use to an assignment submitted to Canvas from a previous course:

  1. Click Image/File Upload. This will bring up a dialog box.
  2. Select my files and locate the course and file you submitted for the assignment.
  3. Once the file has uploaded to the page, click Select/Upload File.
  4. Click Save Page.

If you don’t have any recordings from an upper division Communication course… then create that learning objective page and state that "no recorded presentations from any upper division COMM course was recorded", but list the course/class that satisfies the public speaking/oral communication requirement (COMPASS curriculum)

Common Reasons ePortfolios are Rejected

Problem: An ePortfolio has been submitted but the Reflection Essay is loaded as a separate file.

Solution: Go back and type your Reflection Essay content (for each Learning Objective) directly into the Text Editor/Comment area instead of uploading it as a separate file

There’s no need to “resubmit” your ePortfolio link because the changes take place immediately.

Problem: The file submitted as your artifact is not accessible. You may have selected Course Submission to upload this file, but that doesn’t allow access to the reviewers.

Solution: Go back to your ePortfolio and delete that submission and use Image/File Upload (as shown on pg. 5 in the Student Instruction Manual). You do not need to resubmit your link because the update will automatically adjust.

Problem: You may have submitted a link to your ePortfolio, but it's unclear what Learning Objective your artifact (assignment) is designed to demonstrate. Even though an assignment can demonstrate competency for multiple learning objectives, each learning objective must have a unique Canvas page.

Solution: Go back and rename the Canvas page to reflect the learning objective you are submitting something for. The name of your artifact/file can be anything as long as the name of the Canvas page is the same as the learning objective. You can then add your Reflection Essay directly on the same page (via the Text box).

There’s no need to “resubmit” your ePortfolio link because the changes take place immediately.

Problem: You may have submitted a link to your ePortfolio but forgotten to include the required artifacts.

Solution: Review the artifact requirements for your specific track and submit the listed artifacts for each learning objective. The Canvas page name should mirror the learning objective your artifact is designed to demonstrate.

Once you add the Learning Objective page (and associated artifact) to your ePortfolio, the contents in the COMM ePortfolio course will also automatically update so there is no need to re-submit your link.
